Pretty much this. It's apparent that it's not a simple shift cypher, just working on the assumption that Q is really I, so that's probably going to take waaaaay too long to decipher.

I imagine it's a shift cypher that either changes by a regular interval each letter, or a shift cypher based on another word.
I posted one on here once that was very nearly impossible to solve, even if I pretty much told you how I did it, a shift cypher based on a series of random numbers produced as the digits of a common irrational number.

It's based on a word, then the remainder is randomized.

I did the same thing. Ran it through a couple computer programs I wrote and it just spit out garbage. Also, I've done a similar encoding process before, but didn't post it here.
Have you read Cryptonomicron by Neal Stephenson? I imagine you would smurfing love it.
tryingtothinkagain
May 1 2011, 07:59 PM
I don't think so, I've mostly read a bunch of random stuff. Then I either independently discovered or invented (honestly not sure which) a few different methods of encryption over the years.
EDIT: I could send you a document explaining my favorite method of encryption, one of the ones I came up with, see if it's similar to anything you've heard of. Not too elaborate, fairly simple to manipulate with a computer, but hopefully original enough to make it difficult to even begin to unravel.

It's an awesome book, like 1000 pages long. Parallel narrative set in WWII about codebreakers/codemakers in that war, plus a sergeant who is just pure badass. Then it also follows their grandchildren (and a couple characters from the first one) in the modern day, who are involved in like cybersecurity or something. He also includes an unbreakable cipher that's used in the text as an appendix. And Alan Turing is a decently major figure in it.
Neal Stephenson is awesome.
