Doing great. Yep the CRs are keeping me busy. I just got back from a state board meeting at ASU West. Being an officer as a freshman has it's perks.
What's new with you?

A fair bit, keeping up with quizbowl which is turning out quite well (I'm excited for our next competition in Palo Alto in January), and the decathlon season is starting to heat up, so I spent most of my weekend helping out to judge and do forced labor for Mountain Pointe, and I'm proud of our young'ins.

If some of us Phoenix folk (plus Brendan, who I believe will be in the Valley over most of break) were considering trekking it up to the mountains in December or January, would you wanna hang out if we were headed in a Prescott-like trajectory? I'm told that water freezes or something crazy up there, so I'm wanting to check that out this winter.

I'm all in. I'm out from Dec. 10 to Jan. 13 and have no family coming so I should be completely in the clear.

About the avatar: Sorry but DDT should have reduced the file size. I'll have it fixed in a few.

Edit: Ok. Should be fixed. Let me know it there are more issues.

Dr. Roffles
God damn do I hate unproductive all-nighters.
Jonesy
Waking up late leads to taking my meds late
Taking my meds late means I stay up later
Staying up later means I wake up later.
Waking up later means I miss classes.
Missing classes means I get bad grades.
Missing classes also means I get almost no social interaction.
No social interaction and bad grades cause depression.
Depression means I can't go to classes or get social interaction.

My life is a beautifully circular flow chart.
Dr. Roffles
My flow chart is sort of like that. Except it goes something like this.

I put off a little bit of work for class. "I can do it later!"
Major life problems pile up on the backburner, new major problems appear suddenly.
Continue putting off work to deal with major problems.
Problems begin to seriously depress me, becomes harder to get work done.
Work becoming harder to get done leads to more procrastination.
Procrastination leads to sadness about inability to get work done.
Stress over life problems lead to more sadness which leads to more dithering.
Depressions lead to alienating friends and therefore more sads.
Sudden happiness appears, do not want to spoil it by working and ruining mood, procrastinate.
Sudden crash when I realize the extent of the stuff I have to do, more sads.
Have to pull an all-nighter to even have a chance to complete work.
Continue working with the vague hope that, when this is all over, my mood will snap back from this hell.
Know that barring some miracles that has little chance of happening in the short-term.
Realize that sadness prevents me from seeing the long-term in anything but an abstract sense.
Put head on table and pray to a God I don't really know if I really believe in.
Do... more work? I guess?

Actually, I guess that isn't actually circular in the slightest. My bad.

Please don't do it. Skipping two entire nights of sleep is absolutely terrible for your health, both physical and mental. There is a point where grades are not the most important concern.
Dr. Roffles
Speaking as a dude who has never chained all-nighters, I'm with Will. That is absolutely terrible for your health.

PS: I didn't get the lowest grade in the class on my Stats test!!!

PS: Actually turns out I got above like 30% of the class!!!

AF: If you had told me entering college that I would ever find myself happy about that situation, I would have been mortified.

PS: Nothing pressing due that I need to do for tomorrow.

I did 3 all nighters in a row right before I graduated. Pick your spots to get in a couple hours of sleep and go on.

This of course however...is not advisable.

UC: I'm in absolutely paralyzing pain post-surgery now.

I have chained all-nighters. After three days you can start to hallucinate. In general it is a terrible long-term idea but not the worst thing in the world.

I've strung together multiple all-nighters before, and though you'd be better off just doing your work earlier, it's worth keeping good grades.

I'm also impervious to disease, toxins, and all other potential sources of harm, so maybe I'm biased.

I really appreciate your concern...but there's just not much I can do. I had an hour nap between my morning class and afternoon studio, and I might be able to rest for a bit later...but I've got two huge projects due tomorrow, and if I don't turn them in I will fail

There are other circumstances that add to this feeling that I am not at liberty to discuss in public. I may not be experiencing the BFE, but if I'm not, then if things pan out the way it's looking like they will, then I definitely will be experiencing the BFE.

But there's also a most-HRE thrown in there for a good friend of mine going through more than anyone her age should have to go through. It's not third-world, starving-to-death-as-parents-are-shot bad, but it's still pretty damn smurfed up.

PS: Home in one hour, managed not to commit suicide this flight somehow. Thanks Philip Roth/free wifi.

Was the flight really that bad?
TheWerg
I stayed up all night last night because it was so early, then discovered that somehow the airlines found a way to make the seats even less conducive to sleep. I think it wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the frustration involved though. Basically I was in the middle section, with three seats. I'm in the left aisle seat, and there is a girl in the middle seat. Whoever is in the right seat doesn't show. Instead of moving to the right seat and thus giving both of us plenty of space, the girl in the middle seat first puts her backpack on the right seat for three hours while watching George Lopez, then when she wants to sleep puts down the armrest and stretches out across two seats, thus attaining the most comfortable sleep possible on a plane while I physically cannot. Also I've been sick and flying while sick sucks. Also I'm incredibly hungry but never had time to get food since last night, and last night I ate Duke food, which was terrible and I couldn't really get much down before it killed my appetite.

The reason suicide was an option is I finished the entire Philip Roth book I brought on the plane pretty early in the flight and am too tired to start another one. If it hadn't been for the free wifi on this plane I don't know how I could have passed five hours of time.

:/ I am sorry to hear that. People are dumb/jerks.

I make the same 5 hour flights going home/going back to school, and they're always so terrible. I usually take the redeye flights, too, but can never sleep. :/ The only time I actually slept on a flight was last May when I pulled two all-nighters the days before my flight. (So I got no sleep Monday and Tuesday nights and my flight was Wednesday night; I had to finish up three different projects and move out of my apartment within those three days.) Yeah, I had never been so exhausted... but it was really nice sleeping the entire flight. I usually can only kinda-doze for 30 minutes max.

Was the free wifi a trial session or is your airline nice enough to give you free wifi?
TheWerg
They gave it free for the holiday season or something. Serious lifesaver though.
