Jan 28/29... it all comes together... no more predictions, it's GO TIME! Some will win, some will lose, some will curse "Glee" for making them think of Journey songs whenever they hear that line... and 40 large schools will travel to El Paso, 25 medium/small head to San Antonio for the state clash of titans to see if this is the year Texas can send up a California-killer to Nationals in North Carolina.

May your subjective judges be Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny and may you all read the questions carefully!
the godfather
Wait since large school is at El Paso will a lot of teams being flying up there. I mean some drives will be ridiculous, DFW is alright but everywhere else not in West Texas is so far away.

Region X is at Pearce, Region IX is at Richland HS in Birdville

Good luck this weekend guys.

May the Mass x Acceleration be with you.

Today is the first for most, if not all in Texas. Good luck to everyone and I hope your subjectives go well.

For state, I will be judging speech, so you better hope none of your decathletes have me wink.gif haha just kidding I most likely will be giving high scores.
Stanley Tree
Just got done judging speech for Region V, saw about two or four good speeches, didn't get to see Higginbotham yet, but got to see the Pearland team. Should set up for an interesting meet tomorrow.
Higginbotham
Always such a relief to be done with subjectives. Impossible to predict scores from the reaction of the kids. They often have little correlation.
Doduare
A very interesting meet indeed wink.gif

I GET TO SEE SPEECH SCORES IN THREE HOURS OR LESS!

The rockwall uniforms are one of the most uncomfortable things I've worn, we'll see how testing goes in them.

Did George Costanza design them?

Can't imagine what you can do beyond jeans and a shirt that would make someone say "the most uncomfortable things I've worn"... blush.gif Must see a photo because the pictures in my head are disturbing.

Maybe it's the bunny suit from The Christmas Story bunny.gif

Does it involve anything with snaps, velcro, leather, or metal studs? unsure.gif

There better not be a thong anywhere near this uniform !! jaw-dropping.gif

We can gather scores here http://acadecscores.gilslotd.com/wiki/Regionals/Texas/2011 and get a good approximate estimate for the state qualifying cutoffs early if enough schools post. star-wars-smiley-023.gif

Very interesting, but a great number should be easily ahead in medium-school makes me really wonder what Seven Lakes and Dobie got today.
The Evil Dr. Calculus
Seven Lakes: 45,325
Dobie: 49,0028

::jaw drops::
JP_Irish
That was an incorrect score for us, they messed up our relay points:

Our score, while not much better, was: 45,725

Bad day for us from top to bottom. First time I've seen everyone have a bad day at the same time, but there it is. Congrats Dobie, great score.

Wow, by comparison Dobie's score is literally off-the-charts because everyone seemed to have underperformed, and Dobie still kicked ass.
Stanley Tree
I think Rockwall is still very much in contention for a state title. Their subjectives are LOW at regionals, and will be HIGH at state. How many points is that right there? Plus, ours here in the region are probably inflated.
The Evil Dr. Calculus
BTW, Rockwall got a 39 on the Relay.

Oh I totally agree, I'm just amazed probably like the rest of us of what Dobie was done relative to the rest of the state.

Stanley Tree
Thankyou very much! Will you be able to get your hands on all scores?

Looks like our score leaked on to the board before the end of the competition.

Nope. We only got printout of our own school's numbers. I have Warren's and access potentially to Stevens (I am a coach so these two team numbers are good).
the godfather
So who else might have scores? I'm a bit surprised we haven't heard anything from Gear or Webb from region 10. I'm not sure we have anything else although Irish might have more from his region, but I feel like we know less than usual I mean if it wasn't for Hartman we would have almost knew nothing from today. So hopefully we can get more info before Monday.

O'Connor got a 41XXX, with a very dominant duo of Honors one got a 85XX

in the medium results:
1. Boerne Champion HS- 37898.3
2. Alamo Heights HS- They didn't say the score, but apparently about 200 points behind us
relay:
Champion won with a 33
SQ was won by Alamo Heights with a 4360

individual:
Honors top score: Heights 7XXX?
Scholastic Top Score: Heights 7XXX? (probably a 7100-7200, he apparently barely beat me and I got a 7084, a very disappointing score)
Varsity: unknown but it looks like a score around 6000 based on what i do know

this will be interesting for state competition, Heights is ticked they lost, and many if not all the Champion individuals are very very disappointed in their scores so we should hopefully see a nice increase in our scores

if I may be so bold to ask if Alice would care to share individual scores?

~Brad Hillin~

Edit: Region IV by the way, we don't get full scores til monday I guess, they are supposed to E-mail them

I think that is the general consensus of the night, everyone felt like they did not do their best but I believe it seems more of the tests difficulty then people putting up a poor performance, but you are right it does set up everyone to see a nice score boost so we'll see what happens next month.

Also to all the medium/small school people I will be in San Antonio judging speech and be there for the competition the next day so hopefully I can meet some of you guys.

And is it just me, or are scores *very low* this year for a lot of schools?

We got some big 40's out in front, but second place scores are landing in the mid- to upper-30's. This is going to be a chaotic year, methinks...

Agreed I think everyone outside the teams at the very top teams their can be a lot of movement at state. Also just a guess but it seems like the medium judges were a little bit nicer than the large schools because the top 3 medium all was ahead of Plano and that is just shocking although it does seem Rockwall is just incredible.

As a side note I'm not sure I want to find out what my old team scored because the scores seem awfully ugly today.

The same goes for region 5 also. The essay graders seemed to have some kind of chip on their shoulder. I don't know if we're the only team that noticed this or not (or perhaps we all just suck at essays, its possible). And lang/lit of course was an abomination, but we already knew that was coming. This just makes me in even more awe of Dobie for miraculously pulling of a 49k under these conditions.

So for lang-lit are we at the point that it is almost a subject that one might want to punt on and focus on other subjects because hasn't the trend been the tests for that is nearly impossible. Just asking considering I have no idea on the material.

Just now got home and Wife is screeching at me to get off the computer and cuddle with her - so I will sacrifice one for the team here people and post scores then go into damage control mode with the wife.

At first glance at the scores, one would think that yeah you should just forget Lang Lit, without going into detail due to honesty statements and what not, in short its possible to get a good score, and can definitely make a difference in competition, its just a tad tricky and depends on how/what one studies

I found Lang/Lit to be my only saving grace of this competition, so I think I'll agree with you there. I think most people are just too intimidated by the tests and the novel itself to really go in depth and enjoy it.
