Full Version: Arizona Decathlon
DemiDec Talk > Curriculum > Academic Decathlon
ouroboros39
As most of you probably know, Arizona has its state budget cuts and what not, which puts Academic Decathlon in an iffy position, so Im not sure if this is just for Gilbert or all of AZ, but whatever, basically the question is, do you guys know if the district is paying for your curriculum, or are you buying it as a school through fund raisers and stuff. And since its about 1 week till curriculum comes out (right?) are you guys still getting it on the the day school ends, around the 21st? Thanks, i go to Desert Ridge, and we really have no clue whats going on.

Our school still pays for it for now (because we're one of a shrinking number of groups that actually wins things...), and we're set to get them very soon.
AtomicCafe
Our school has always paid for them itself, as well. Because of the budget cuts, it's harder to get funding, but the school manages. Should be getting them next week...
BadgerCam
You guys are lucky. Our team raises its own money or travel and materials. And because the lady at district that does POs is very slow, our check might not get sent in until the End of July.

Ermm, I think we're funding our procurement of materials with district money/tax donations. Supposedly, they'll be mailing out Friday. Could be longer.

That too.

I really wish my school or district paid for Academic Decathlon materials. We steadily had our budget cut the last few years I did it. dry.gif

Also, please do not use the non-word "Decathalon" anywhere on this board, or your soul will be fed to an alpaca. (Yes, the topic title's been corrected.)

People around here do it so often that I seldom notice. I get the, "You Yankee queer," look every time I correct a person's pronunciation of the word, and it gives me flashbacks of Idiocracy.

At state, a few of our members painted "DECATHALON" on their backpacks. (These were the newbie members who we just needed to fill slots, though.) As you may imagine, I pretended not to know them.

Usually our USAD stuff are funded by our district but I'm not sure about this year

and the Demidec stuff is funded by the class...usually through tax donations

The good news is that it seem that Highland will still have an AcDec Class. =)
However, It looks like we will be getting our materials near the middle of the summer =(

Personally, I'm not in too bad shape though. This will be my 3rd consecutive year of Chemistry, and I still have all my basics guides from last year.

Hey, Yost; if you're a really good kid and Mr. Bitter (Music Chair at your school) will vouch for you, you could come over and check out a set of materials for you to read as long as you promise to return them when you get yours.

That's perhaps one of the classiest things I've ever seen on these boards.....

I'm all for rewarding people who want to learn; I don't care who or from where. That doesn't mean I can afford to supply EVERYONE, but every now and then I like to reward people with (and now I'm going to date myself) what we used to call "spunk."
